Now is the time to progress. You've experienced rock climbing indoors and/or outdoors. You've learnt to top rope and belay in a safe and efficient way. Maybe you have lead indoors. The excitement of lead climbing is a combination of skills, techniques and experience that lets you conquer your fears and climb.
Let us guide you through the process of learning to lead in a safe and practical way.
On a learn to lead day we will cover:
Safe and efficient belaying both at the bottom and at the top.
Gear placement and removal.
Communication and climbing calls.
Placing gear on route, choice of anchors and how to use them.
Selecting routes, using guidebooks and grading climbs.
Techniques and progression in the sport.
You will quickly progress and gain knowledge, skills and experience.
Learn the techniques of belaying and rope management, and see how we make it all safe and put it all into practice.
You can also experience abseiling and how to set it up and make it safe.
Your climbing session will begin with an introduction to your instructor, the equipment needed and getting you equipped and ready for action. Your instructor will tailor the day to best fit your needs and level of experience.

This includes your harness, helmet and any ropes and safety equipment required. If you have your own kit then please feel free to bring it along to use on the day and if you don't have climbing shoes, just bring some sturdy shoes / trainers.
All of our equipment is inspected and maintained on a regular basis for your peace of mind and comfort during your climbing experience. If at any point you feel uncomfortable or unsafe in any way, our instructors will be on hand to support you. We also run a challenge by choice policy which means you will never feel pressured by our team to do something you feel uncomfortable with.
